12 miles east of Chinook Pass around milepost 81.5 is a very nice campground signed as Fife’s Peak Viewpoint / Crow Lake Way trailhead elevation 3,400 ft. Pleasant Valley people only campground will be on right, next will be a horse crossing sign, next turn to left, Fifes Peak Viewpoint.
Circle turnaround with 6 parking spots for rig/horse trailer and hitching posts. No water in camp, creek to the East within walking distance. Men and Women’s outhouse. Hitching Posts.
From this spot an easy scenic trail loops along both sides of the American river which crosses over hiway 410 at milepost 78 on the west end and Hell’s Canyon Campground on the east end milepost 84. Approximately 15 mile loop that is clearly marked with blue diamonds.
If you desire steeper more challenging trails, Sheepherders / Crow Lake Basin trail departs to the north of the campground to an elevation of 5,600. Union Creek Trail also is just west of that trailhead. On the south side of hiway 410 Goat Peak trail is accessed from Hell’s Canyon Campground and loops up the American Ridge…and I mean UP to 6,470 ft and circles back down to Pleasant Valley trail or continues westerly along American Ridge. Kettle Creek Trail departs from Pleasant Valley trail to the south to 5,600 foot elevation.
